Do Christian disciples celebrate Christmas?

Is their anything wrong with celebrating Christmas? Do Christians need to be mindful of such festivities? Here is a look at the origins of Christmas and how the God of Abraham felt about ancient festivities rooted in Christmas.

Observing false gods

The prophet Amos prophesied God's wrath against Israel for the observance of a foreign god. Israel held Christmas-like festivities in honor of a Mesopotamian star-god,^{[Amos 5:26]} whom the Romans later adopted into their pantheon of gods. The false god came to be known as Saturn (See Sakkuth and Kaiwan). The Romans honored Saturn during the winter solstice, from December 17 to the 23rd, in a festive period known as Saturnalia. Gift-giving was done on the final day, called The Sigillaria, where pottery or wax figurines were given as traditional gifts.

Amos 5:16-27

[16] “Therefore this is what Jehovah the God of armies, Jehovah, says::‘In all the public squares there will be wailing, And in all the streets they will say, “Alas, alas!” They will call on the farmers to mourn And the professional mourners to wail.’ [17] ‘In every vineyard there will be wailing; For I will pass through your midst,’ says Jehovah. [18] ‘Woe to those who yearn for the day of Jehovah! What, then, will the day of Jehovah mean for you? It will be darkness, and not light. [19] It will be like a man who flees from a lion and is confronted by a bear, And when he enters his house and leans his hand against the wall, a snake bites him. [20] Will not the day of Jehovah be darkness, and not light; Will it not have gloom, and not brightness? [21] I hate, I despise your festivals, And I take no pleasure in the aroma of your solemn assemblies. [22] Even if you offer me whole burnt offerings and gift offerings, I will find no pleasure in them; And I will not look with favor on your communion sacrifices of fattened animals. [23] Spare me the din of your songs; And let me not hear the melodies of your stringed instruments. [24] Let justice flow down like waters, And righteousness like an ever-flowing stream. [25] Did you bring me sacrifices and gift offerings For those 40 years in the wilderness, O house of Israel? [26] Now you will have to carry away Sak′kuth your king and Kai′wan,* Your images, the star of your god, whom you made for yourselves, [27] And I will send you into exile beyond Damascus,’ says he whose name is Jehovah the God of armies.”

Pagan customs

Do Christians know that when they celebrate Christmas, they are actually observing pagan customs?

The following is a list of pagan concepts and traditions:

1. Santa Claus

3. The Christmas tree
4. Exchanging of gifts
5. Burning candles
6. Burning Yule logs
7. Hanging decorative wreaths
8. Caroling

A christian response. The bible testify [1 Corinthians 15:25] For he must reign, till he has put all enemies under his feet.

Therefore:

1. Santa Claus even though a mix of many traditions, are under Christ, due to Saint Nicolaus.

2. If people want to kiss, then rather that than waging war. God is not a small kid.

3. Charlemagne, a christian Frankish king, destroyed the saxon "pillar" tree Irminsul and up sprung a pinetree in its place. The christmas tree celebrates how Jesus overcame the germanic pagan belief that a tree upheld the sky.

4. Jesus was Gods gift to the world to show He both upholds justice and are merciful at same time. Therefore we give gifts, not because we are forced to, but as a sincere grateful thanksgiving to the one who became our new high priest.

5. If anyone must have a spiritual reason to lit a candle, well sure, then we do it because Jesus is the light of the world [John 8:12].

6. Most people do it because of the coziness and heat. If anyone is stuck in some kind of superstition about this, God want us to grow up [Ephesians 4:15].

7. Use it to remember the crown of thorns God wore for you on the cross.

8. Most caroling is done as people want to share their joy with people.
